Becoming a Border Rider Member
How do I become a member?
Border Rider Membership requirements are governed by our by-laws. Simply put, a prospected member must be sponsored by a current member of the Club and own a motorcycle. The general membership then votes to accept or reject a prospective member into the club during our Annual General Membership meeting in January.
Is that all there is to it?
Not quit. The Border Riders are a fraternal organization. We want to make sure you are a good fit. We ask that you ride with us during a full riding season. We want to get to know you and what is your interest in the Club. After riding with us, you can request to become a member from any active member. Your sponsor is responsible in keeping you informed of the Clubs activities and the steps in becoming a member. Being a member isn’t as simple as paying your yearly dues to join.
Who can become a Club member?
To be eligible to become a member, you must be a gay man at least 21 years old. You must OWN a motorcycle that is capable of sustained highway speeds. You must abide by the Clubs by-laws which include maintain liability insurance on your motorcycle. There are other by-law requirements and those will be shared with you if you become a member. You must pay the yearly membership due as set forth by the Board and by-laws.
What are the benefits of being a member?
The Club offers a fraternal friendship and support of our sport to members. Members receive a discount on all Club activities requiring a fee be paid. Club members and prospective new members are invited to our winter meeting. Club members are authorized to wear the Club Colors (patch) and arm patches on their jackets. Colors are not owned by the members but are leased during your tenure as a Club member.
Do I have to be a member to ride with the Club?
Absolutely not. All of our weekend runs are open to members and guests. We encourage guest and prospective members to join us during our summer riding season. Weekend run information is posted on our web site along with registration information for each run.
What if I have more questions?
You can send email to the Club Board members via our web site. Of course, the best way to get more information is to come to one of our monthly summer weekend runs or to a local Meet and Greet.
